Psychologists have found that keeping a dream journal has shown benefits including helping decipher complicated emotions, inventing creative solutions, and managing emotions along with self care (sleep.com). There are many ways to start a dream journal, the creativity is in your hands! If you need a place to start, here is some inspiration I use to journal. Step #1: Find your Platform Whether that’s an app, audio recordings, typing, or physically writing in a journal, find a platform that works for you to jot down your dreams! When I’m extra tired, I tend to lean towards voice recordings through my voice memos. However, when I start to remember my dream throughout the day, I prefer to write them down. Step #2: Put down EVERYTHING Sometimes, it’s really difficult to remember your dreams in the daytime. Personally, I remember more and more throughout the day and by writing them down. Make sure to put down everything you remember, since the memory may fade fast. Sometimes, writing them down triggers more memories of my dreams! Step #3: Just do it! There is no “perfect” way to start a dream journal, it all begins with taking the first steps. Start by spending five minutes each morning writing. Even if you can’t remember your dream, write that! Maybe ramble about what’s going on in your day-to-day life, or sketch some fun doodles. Get into the habit of writing each morning reflecting on your dreams.
